A team of 10 women to represent Kenya in the upcoming Tchoukball World Cup in Czech Republic from 1-5 August 2023 was named on Saturday by head coach Brian Ngugi.
Among the players named include; Agnes Namulekhe, Caroline Wanjiku, Joyner Atieno, Emmy Chepngeno, Brenda Lunyagi, Sharon Muthoki, Lilian Muthoni, Mary Mueni, Tracy Awino and Melvin Anyango.
“We have a good team that I believe will deliver despite this being our debut season at the global event,” coach Ngugi said on his team’s expectations. “For now, there is nothing much but just to get into camp and start training. From there we can work on our strengths and weaknesses.”
Ngugi was speaking in Nairobi, where he was optimistic of getting fair results in the Czech Republic after qualifying for the global showcase last year during the African championships in Uganda.
While in Uganda, Kenya beat the host nation and neighbors Tanzania to clinch their maiden continental trophy, qualifying to the global showcase in August 2023 hosted in Czech’s Republic capital city - Prague.
The Kenya national team will start training at Mihang’o Primary school in Utawala, Nairobi from 5 July, with the similar squad being in place from the triumphal African Championships.
The traveling party will also have the federation’s chairperson Kennedy Okello, Referee Caroline Githaiga and Team Manager Marlon Owiti.
